Asian Talent Conference in Singapore

by Kevin Wheeler on August 17, 2008

Trevor Vas, Horace Chai and I started the Australasian Talent Conferences 2 years ago to bring the latest in emerging talent practices from the U.S. to Asia and vice-versa. We merge recruiting, training, career planning, retention and other related areas to showcase the growing interconnectedness of these disciplines.

This year’s Singapore conference, our first there, showcases speakers from Starbucks, Whirlpool, and the Singapore Stock Exchange. We cover a range of topics that should appeal to anyone in the human resources field.

Over the next week I will begin blogging about the conference, the speakers, and Singapore itself.  It seems that Singapore HR is about where HR in the U.S. was 10 or so years ago.  They are focused on a transition from transactional to strategic and are struggling with supporting an economy in drastic change.  Manufacturing is declining as an employment choice and services, from financial to design, are emerging as more important.  Biotech is also on an upswing and the challenge is to meet talent needs during this change.
