I have very little sense of direction. I am the guy who goes into a building for a meeting, comes out an hour later and turns the opposite way to get back to my car. It often takes me half-an-hour to get my bearings, ask directions and figure out where I am.
I really envy friends who seems to have a built-in GPS. To make life easier, I have GPS units in my car and in my Blackberry and now on my hip when I am hiking.
The Garmin eTrex Vista is a super lightweight unit that works in trees and under cloudy skies. Loaded with maps for the Western U.S., I have not been lost for a quite some time.
In fact, it has made hiking even more fun because I now dare to get off the marked trails and experiment, knowing that I can find my way back with the GPS.
I am planning to take it with me on trips and may invest in maps for Europe and the Eastern U.S. so when I am traveling there I can geet directions. Hopefully, it will help me in navigating new cities.
I have also jusrt seen that Google is providing walking directions and public transit informetion on its Google mapping service. This is a fantastic service and acknowledges that not everyone drives everywere!
