Jason Warner at Google

by Kevin Wheeler on August 6, 2008

I spent a bit of time with Jason Warner yesterday at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California.  Jason, a recruiting guru and senior level recruiting director, has recently moved into training after a decade in recruiting at both Starbucks and Google.

Why? After several interviews like this one today, I am convinced that we are moving from a decade dominated by recruiting people into organizations to a decade where the focus will be on employee development and retention.

Jason is very perceptive and can see that times are changing again.

There are more high level organization development, training, and corporate university director positions open today than anytime in the past five years.  Many organizations are creating corporate universities and developing internal leadership institutes and organizations are thinking about talent development because they are tired of the endless chase for people. Organizations like IBM and General Electric saw this a long time ago and have always had a robust training and development process in place.  I think this is a sign of a maturing organizational mindset — or at least I hope so.

Here is what Jason had to say.
