I haven't posted recently because I have been swamped with travel, conferences and off-sites. Never realized how busy the fall months have become for me. This is the second year when I have been busier in September, October and November than most of the rest of the year.
I was just in Italy at a unique conference that gave university placement officials an opportunity to meet with corporations throughout Europe and vice versa. This gave both parties an opportunity to learn about each other, explore ways to work together, and forge relationships.
My role was to run a workshop on social media and to give a general session on workplace trends. That was interesting and I got the opportunity to catch up with two old friends, Keith Dugdale, worldwide head of recruiting for of KPMG and Sanjay Singh VP of HR for Whirlpool Asia. And of course the conversation turned to the world economy and recruiting trends.
Consensus? No significant downturn in India, Asia or the Middle East. Some dampening in parts of the world but in general things are still tough for recruiters. Talent is scarce and will be scarce for the next decade or so.
Here are some words from Sanjay.

HI Kevin
Great that you caught up with Keith and Sanjay – I had the pleasure of meeting Sanjay last year at the ERE Global Expo in Amsterdam and knew Keith many many years ago.
Looking forward to you adding to your travels with your headline performance at Global Recruitment Conference 2008 this year in Amsterdam.
See you there
Alan
